Education

Working with a collaborative client made this project run smoothly; I also really enjoyed being involved in the school class project on health and safety.

Lee Randall contracts manager

Bramber were selected to extend and refurbish Bramber Primary School, a popular community school nestled beneath the South Downs, teaching over 400 children up to year 6.

Our works were carried out during term time and comprised 3 extensions to the corners of the existing building, together with internal alterations and a new staff room. Careful planning and coordination ensured that the 400 children could continue to learn in a safe and secure environment. Our contract manager worked closely with the headmistress, who was involved in each key decision making process.

The completed project is a bright and contemporary building, with internal fittings selected to aid and support child development. Similarly, during the temporary works, as well as using child friendly portable toilets, we worked with the teachers to use the construction works as a school project for health and safety. We had made ‘smaller’ traffic cones, signs, barriers and hi-vis vests that were used by the teachers and children to explain the importance of health and safety.

Key successes of the project were:

  • Interactive health and safety project for the children using mini site signs, barriers and hi-vis vests.
  • Ensuring there were no school closures and that pupils education was uninterrupted by the works.
  • Collaborating with the teachers to ensure there were staggered break times.
